Laverne Johnson

March 26, 1932 — January 6, 2012

Laverne Johnson, age 79, of Willmar, died peacefully Friday morning, January 6, at Rice Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation is one hour prior to the service on Friday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.

Laverne McFerron Johnson was born on March 26, 1932, in Rock County, Kentucky. She attended school until the sixth grade. She was married to Alvie Johnson on March 14, 1952 at the Free Pentecostal Holiness Church in Mount Vernon, Kentucky and they were blessed with two children, Gordon and Joan. She and Alvie lived and farmed in the rural Litchfield area until 1968 when they purchased their farm site in Lake Elizabeth Township, near Atwater, Minnesota. They farmed there until retirement and eventually purchased a home in Willmar and moved there in May of 1990.

Laverne enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and spending time with family.

She is survived by her children, Gordon W. (and Carol) Johnson; Joan E. Braun (and Darrell Murphy); grandchildren, Renee (Scott) Kotlarz, Chad (Amy) Johnson; Michael (Tina) Braun, Mark Braun, and Misty Braun; and great grandchildren, Nyssa Johnson, Autumn Johnson, Lilly Johnson, CJ Gustafson, Jasmine Braun, Anna Braun, Keera Braun, Wyatt Haugan, Sydney Haugan and Paige Haugan; her brother, Ralph McFerron (and Maria) of Mount Vernon, Kentucky; and her special friend, Ed Baumer.

Laverne was preceded in death by her husband Alvie in 1998; her parents, Milt and Lillie May McFerron; and siblings, Elizabeth, Russell and Alma.
