Leila was born November 12, 1932, in Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Otto and Clara (Buettner) Lindekugel. She lived in rural Good Thunder, rural Lucan, Brownton and Hector, where she graduated from Hector High School in 1950. On March 10, 1951, she married Eugene Wenzel and they resided in Hector, briefly in Montevideo and then moved to Spicer in 1954 for the remainder of her life. She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother! She was involved in the family-owned Dairy Freeze, and volunteered and supported many community activities. She was active with Girl Scouts, Commercial Club and various activities at Zion and Faith Lutheran Church (as Sunday School teacher, VBS superintendent and teacher, Circle, WELCA and 13 years with the confirmation program). Leila volunteered weekly in the 4th grade classes in the NL-S schools for 33 years. She was also instrumental in getting the "History of Spicer on Green Lake" history book started and completed. She adopted another family in 1975 with the Vietnamese Resettling Project of Faith Lutheran. At this time, they became her second family as she helped them adapt to their new land of America. She was also a best friend, comforter and listener for so many through the years. She was loved by all who knew her. We celebrate her, a life well-lived for God's kingdom and glory. We take comfort that her journey with Jesus Christ on earth is complete -- "Because He lives, we can all face tomorrow!"

She is survived by her husband, Gene; her children, LaJean Wenzel of Camarillo, CA, Douglas (and Joan) Wenzel of Alexandria, Lynnette (and Brian) Anderson of San Marcos, TX, Robinette (and Jeff) Hoard of Bandera, TX and Rhonda (and George) Petro of Griffith, IN; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois (and William) Carlson of Annandale and Rhoda (and Jim) VanderVoort of Comstock; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, David Wenzel in 1969.
