Leon G. Schulz, age 78, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, Feb. 8, at Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. Internment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, at the Church of St. Patrick in Kandiyohi and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Monday in Graceville.
Leon Gordon Schulz was born on September 22, 1936, in Edgeley, North Dakota, the son of William P. and Emma N. (Lenz) Schulz. At the age of 9, the family moved to Pierz, Minnesota where he grew up and received his education. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Leon was employed at the Crestliner Boat Company in Little Falls and later for Taffe Brothers Farm. On June 30, 1962, Leon was united in marriage to Kathryn Ruth Guenther and they made their home in Graceville. In 1985, they moved to Kandiyohi and was employed by Willmar Poultry Company, retiring in 2001. In 2002, they moved into Willmar and Leon was employed part time at Cash Wise Foods for several years. In 2011, Leon entered Bethesda Pleasant View. Leon's hobbies included farming, fishing, hunting and animals. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and baseball. Leon cherished time spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn of Willmar; five children, Donald Schulz (and special friend, Leisa Fix) of Watkins, Rita (and Robert) Borchert of St. Cloud, William (and Jackie) Schulz of Hutchinson, David Schulz of Worthington and Michael Schulz of Willmar; seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Harry Schulz of Fargo, ND.; and one sister, Wilma Keehr of Little Falls, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter-in-law, Kerry Schulz in 2014; one great grandson, Carsen; three brothers, Arthur, Alvin and Milton; and three sisters, Violet, Amelia and Florence.
