Leone Fredrick, age 84, of Atwater, died Friday morning, July 10, at her home in Atwater after a courageous fight against ALS.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, at Harrison Community Presbyterian Church in rural Spicer. Interment will be at Oakside Cemetery in rural Spicer. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Leone Margaret Fredrick was born September 29, 1930, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Vernon and Alpha (Engwall) Kragenbring. She grew up in the rural Atwater area, graduated from Atwater High School in 1947 and from St. Cloud State University in 1949. She taught elementary school in Keewatin from 1949 to 1951, in Montevideo from 1951 to 1953, and in rural Stearns County from 1953 to 1955.
She married Carl Fredrick on October 26, 1952 and they made their home in Montevideo. They later lived and farmed in rural Atwater. They retired from farming in 1992 and moved into Atwater in 1995. She was a member of Harrison Community Presbyterian Church, where she was a former Sunday School Superintendent and was active with the Presbyterian Women. She was also active with the Atwater Area Help for Seniors, Atwater American Legion Auxiliary and the Bloodmobile. She volunteered with the Cooking with Grandma Program and knitted mittens for the ACGC kindergarten classes. She was also an avid fan of all Minnesota sports and was statistician for three generations, keeping statistics at her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events.
She is survived by her five children: Scott (and Debb) Fredrick of Spicer, Karla Straumann of Atwater, Cheryl (and Duane) Krotzer of Milaca, Linda Malvin (and Adam Behm) of Atwater, and Brian (and Rachelle) Fredrick of Spicer; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister: Dorothy Borgrud of Atwater; and other relatives and friends. Leone was known as mom and grandma to many other lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Carl in 2006; and three grandchildren.
