Leony was born June 30, 1913, in Hagen, Germany, to Walter and Alma (Schulte) Buren. She was baptized and confirmed in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1928 at the age of 15. She lived in San Francisco, California and worked as a housekeeper.
On September 23, 1932, she married Conrad Miller and they lived in Redwood City, California for 37 years until Conrad's death in 1969. On October 7, 1972, she married Bernhard Sprengel and they continued to live in Redwood City. Bernhard died in 1975. Leony was a foster parent to several children and worked as a collator at Remington Rand for many years. While in Redwood City, she was active with the Forester's Lodge, the Rebekah Lodge and the V.F.W. auxiliary. In 1984, Leony moved to Minnesota to be near her mother and stepfather, sister, and nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. On May 20, 1994, she entered Rice Care Center.
She is survived by her sister, Louise Ahl of Atwater; two nieces, Julie Woltjer and Linise (and Jim) Copeland, both of Atwater; a nephew, William Ahl of Willmar; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, William Schweer; two husbands; and a brother-in-law, Clinton Ahl.
