Lester Alseth, age 89, of Atwater died Saturday, February 11, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. The interment will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Atwater. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, at Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Rice Hospice, Atwater Block Nurse program, or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Lester Gordon Alseth was born on October 16, 1922, in East Lake Lillian Township, the son of R.G. and Nancy (Nelson) Alseth. Lester was baptized in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church of Cosmos and received his education in the rural Cosmos schools. On December 28, 1957, Lester was married to Alice Ann Pickle at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. They made their home in Minneapolis and later moved to Atwater. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and was on the church council. Lester farmed with his father; later owned a grocery store in Cosmos with his brother, Wilton; worked in road construction with DeRyuter Brothers of Willmar and Johnson Brothers of Litchfield; and worked for Holm Brothers as a floor covering installer and then went into business for himself until his retirement. He was a member of the 49-B Heavy Equipment Union. His favorite hobby was creating woodworking projects for his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; three children, Linnae (and Jay) Bosch of Atwater, John (and Brigid) Alseth of Golden Valley and Loren (and Margo) Alseth of Eagan; six grandchildren, Aaron (and Kim) Bosch of, Honolulu, HI, Matthew Bosch and Greg Higgins of Toronto, Canada, Anna and Ian Alseth of Golden Valley, Kevin and David Alseth of Eagan; one great-granddaughter, Madelynn Bosch of Honolulu, HI; and other relatives.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen; and a brother, Wilton.
