Lester "Swen" E. Rime, age 86, of Spicer, died Tuesday morning, October 9, at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Burial will be in the Spicer City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Spicer American Legion. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 12, at Faith Lutheran Church and will continue one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
Lester "Swen" Eugene Rime was born November 22, 1925 in Sunburg, Minnesota, the son of Gilbert and Marit (Eliason) Rime. He attended grade school in Sunburg. In 1933, his family moved to Spicer, where he completed his elementary education. He then attended Willmar High School, graduating in 1944. Swen served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. On October 18, 1946, he married Marion Janet Thonvold at Zion Lutheran Church and they made their home in Spicer. Swen worked with his dad in the carpenter business before working as a mail carrier for 30 years. Following his retirement , he went into the real estate business. He was also a land developer and developed Elkhorn Dells and an area of Twin Lakes. Swen was active in the Spicer community, serving on the school board and two terms as mayor. He was also a member of the Willmar V.F.W. and the Spicer American Legion. Swen was a skilled carpenter and an avid hunter and was a member of the Timberline Sportsmen hunting group. He also loved playing golf and was a longtime member of Little Crow Country Club.
Swen is survived by his wife, Marion; his five children, Nancy Rime of Spicer, Tony (and Susan) Rime of Spicer, Karen (and Dave) Kosse of Poolville, TX, Judy (and Bob) Dickhoff of Belgrade and Carol (and Scott) Nelson of Litchfield; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a brother, DeAlton (and Donna) Rime of Willmar; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Russell and Donald.
