She was born on July 15, 1933, to Arthur and Katherine (Remmel) Harding on the family farm in rural Atwater, MN. After her mother died, Lila lived with her maternal aunt and uncle, Henry and Agnes Remmel. After a time in Duluth, she returned to Atwater and graduated high school in 1951. She lived in Lake Lillian until 1960 when she moved to Brandon. She met and married Ira Bergh and they lived on the family farm.
Belonging to a church was a big part of Lila’s life wherever she lived, in the Twin Cities, St. Cloud and Brandon, as an active member and involved with Bible studies in fellowship with other believers. She made many dozens of donuts, taught confirmation classes and hosted Christmas Eve services in the barn on the home place. She loved reading, sewing and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She traveled to England, South Africa and other destinations with friends and family.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Lila held many professions to provide for her family, including waitress and nursing secretary. After selling the farm, she moved to the Twin Cities and later to St. Cloud where she worked at the VA Hospitals and as a jury attendant for the Stearns County Courts. She retired at the age 84.
Her children will remember her loving “as ever”: Steven Oslund of Sioux Falls, SD, Michael (Helen) Oslund of Golden Valley, MN, Catherine (Jeff) Urbowicz of Sauk Rapids, MN and Allison (Gary) Theisen of St. Cloud MN, along with her grandchildren: Mark (Nicole) Urbowicz, Kristine Urbowicz, Gretchen (Bryan) Tabbert, Derek Oslund, Brennen Theisen and Brianna Theisen, in addition to six great grandchildren: Grace, Liam and Declan Urbowicz; and Jerome, Milo and Owen Tabbert. Also surviving is her sister, Linda (Jack) Lawson of Arizona City, AZ and her sisters-in-law Alice Harding of Litchfield, MN and Roberta Harding of Cedar Rapids, IA.,and many more relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother (Leona), husband and four brothers: Donald, Duaine (Skinner), Darwin and Darrell.
