Lillian P. Sluka, age 90, of Spicer, died Thursday evening, June 7, at the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London surrounded by her family.
Services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, June 12, at Willmar Assembly of God Church. The interment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. Monday at the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Lillian Phyllis Sluka was born on April 24, 1922, in Olivia, Minnesota, the daughter of Leo M. (Baichtal) and Levi H. Heacock. She grew up in that area, received her education and graduated for Olivia High School in 1940. On October 4, 1941, she was married to Marvin Edward Sluka in Olivia and they made their home on Marvin's farm near Blomkest. They moved to the Spicer area in about 1959 and Lillian did day care in her home for many years. She later worked for the Spicer Elementry School as a cook and retired after 11 years as head cook. Lillian has been a long time member of the Willmar Assembly of God Church and was the head of the Prayer Chain for almost 20 years. She was also very active in the Senior Dining Program in Spicer and is a past president of the Spicer Senior Citizens, where she served for 5 years. Lil enjoyed being with family and friends and she made sure that each and every grandchild felt that they were the favorite one.
She is survived by two sons: Marvin "Butch" (and Donna) Sluka of Fairbanks, Alaska and Ed (and Linda) Sluka of Spicer and two daughters: Marcia (and Wilton) Paul of New London and Mary (and Corey) Zehnder of Savage. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; one brother: Jack Heacock of Tripp, South Dakota; a son-in-law: Dennis Wallin of Dassel; a daughter-in-law: Robin Sluka of Lincoln City, OR; besides other relatives and friends. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Marvin Edward Sluka in 1986; three children: Judy Wallin, Darla Zuroff and Gary Sluka, all in 2006; one granddaughter: Jodi Lichliter; seven brothers: Dean, Gaylord, twins Meryl and Beryl, Bob, Bill and Harrison Heacock; and one sister, Betty Bachelder.
