Linnea Y. Johnson, age 91, of Atwater, died Friday morning, February 1, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Memorial service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, February 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home. (www.petersonbrothers.com)
Linnea Yvonne (Carlson) Johnson was born on July 29, 1921, in Litchfield, Minnesota, the daughter of Anna (Larson) and Alfred Carlson. She grew up on a farm in Litchfield Township and was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Grove City. Linnea attended country school and graduated from Grove City High School in 1939. She worked for a time at Nelson Brothers Store in Grove City and Tostenrud's Jewelry Store in Litchfield. On January 15, 1955, she was married to Vendel C. Larson at First Lutheran Church in Grove City. They had one daughter, Janet. Vendel died on June 22, 1962. On August 22, 1965, she married Gordon "Gordy" E. Johnson at First Lutheran Church in Litchfield and they made their home in Atwater. Linnea enjoyed being a housewife and baking. During the summer she enjoyed watching all the children play out at Diamond Lake, she especially enjoyed being there with her grandchildren. She hosted many family gatherings at Diamond Lake, providing lots of food and sitting and having a good cup of coffee.
She is survived by one son-in-law; Wayne Reich of Atwater, three grandchildren; Alyssa (and Aaron) Abrahamson of Spicer, Travis (and Samantha) Reich of San Antonio, Texas and Kyle (and Nicole) Reich of Willmar and one great grandchild, Lilly Abrahamson. Also surviving is one niece, Kathy (and Lloyd) Mahn and their two children Brent and Ryan.
Linnea was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands (Vendel Larson and Gordy Johnson), daughter ( Janet Reich), brother (Anfred Carlson), sister and brother-in-law (Lorraine and Marvin Anderson), brother-in-law (Donald Larson), brother-in-law and sister-in-law (Allen "Ole" and Muriel Hovey) and sister-in-law (Arlene Gauer).
