Lloyd J. Beckmann, age 74, of rural Clara City, died Saturday evening, May 25, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and also one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. www.petersonbrothers.com
Lloyd Junior Beckmann was born August 20, 1938, in Lone Tree Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota, to Louis and Christina (Van Heuvelen) Beckmann. He grew up in the Raymond community, was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City and attended District #48 School. In 1961, Lloyd was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Raymond. On March 18, 1961, he was united in marriage to Alice DeGeest at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples.
At a young age, Lloyd began working for area farmers. Later he worked at North Side Texaco and later South Side Texaco, Clara City Creamery, Co-Op Oil, Schorn Garage, Berghuis Construction and 37 years as a heavy equipment operator for Duininck Construction. In retirement, he enjoyed working for Gordie Serbus and Sons. He enjoyed auctions, horses, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Alice; five children, Julie (and Bruce) Granby of Staples, Jeffrey Beckmann of Clara City, Lowell (and Tammy) Beckmann of Prinsburg, LuAnn (and Gary) Selover of New Richland, and Jana Beckmann of Bertha; six grandchildren, Haley Beckmann, Levi (and Caitlyn) Beckmann, Logan Beckmann, Alison (and Robbie) Minoletti, Emily Granby, and Trevor Selover; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Minoletti; one brother, Clarence (and Esther) Beckmann of Sartell; two sisters, Margaret Zimmer of Willmar, and Marcella (and Mel) DeGeest of Bloomington; one brother-in-law, Floyd Gieseke of Minneapolis; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Beckmann of Clara City; his beloved canine companion, Fritz; besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Beckmann; and one sister, Martha Ann Gieseke.
