Lloyd E. Hanson, age 91, of Willmar, died Wednesday evening, June 12, at his home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Willmar American Legion Post #167. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 17, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Lloyd Edwin Hanson was born on January 27, 1928, in Raymond, Minnesota, the son of Oliver and Catherine (Novak) Hanson. He grew up in Raymond, was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and received his education in the Raymond Schools. Lloyd enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during W.W. II overseas in the Philippine Islands. In 1949, he began employment with the Great Northern Railroad as a conductor and brakeman. On September 25, 1950, at the Raymond United Methodist Church, Lloyd was united in marriage to Joyce Marcella Wagner and they made their home in Willmar. In 1990, he retired from the railroad. Lloyd was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He was also active with the Willmar VFW and was a past commander, Raymond American Legion Post, Cooties, Sharon Masonic Lodge and was a past master, York Rite Bodies, Zuhrah Shrine Temple, Willmar Area Shrine Club, Elks Club and the UTU Local. Lloyd enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, cooking and woodworking.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce of Willmar; six children, Marjorie Hanson of Willmar, Barbara Enger of Willmar, Dale (and Linda) Hanson of Golden Valley, Daniel (and Tammy) Hanson of Willmar, Jody Hanson of Blaine and Frank (and Heidi) Hanson of Willmar; nine grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Jimmy Hanson of Renville and one sister, Mary Lou Hanson of Renville and three sisters-in-law: Myrle Hanson, Marvel Hanson and Peggy Hanson, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Beverly and Betty; three brothers, Moe, Buster and Michael; one daughter-in-law, Robin and one son-in-law, Gary.
