Lloye Catherine Peterson

Lloye C. Peterson, age 87, of rural Atwater, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 25, at her residence.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, at First Lutheran Church in rural Cosmos. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. A private interment will be later at the Rosendale Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com

Lloye Catherine Peterson was born on May 22, 1937, near Windom, Minnesota, the youngest daughter of Roy and Irene (Ingebretson) Jensen. She grew up in Westbrook, MN. Lloye was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church of Westbrook, confirmed at the Westbrook Presbyterian Church and at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rosendale. Lloye graduated from Westbrook High School in 1955. After high school, Lloye moved to the Twin Cities and was employed at a Woolworth's store which is where she met Melvin. On June 21, 1958, Lloye was united in marriage to Melvin Dale Peterson, and they made their home on the farm near Cosmos

Lloye was a loving mother who worked hard raising 5 boys, being a homemaker and a supportive farm wife. There were always brownies and cookies to be eaten, or a piece of apple pie or coffee for anyone who came to visit. Lefsa, fudge, and date filled cookies were a must during Christmas.  Later in life, she worked at Jennie-O Foods in Willmar in the Shipping Department, where everyone there knew her as “Grandma”. Lloye just loved her house on the farm. 

Lloye enjoyed country and gospel music, cooking, baking, gardening, canning, knitting, musicals, watching "who done it" mysteries and TV ministries, serving lunch to visitors, giving hugs to anyone in need and visiting with her family and friends. Lloye was proud of her sons and their families, enjoying time spent with them. Lloye took delight in watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow.

She is survived by four sons, Russell (and Pamela) Peterson of Grove City, Bradley (and Cindy) Peterson of Round Lake, Tod (and Kimberly) Peterson of Montrose, SD., and Delvin (and Lynn) Peterson of Lake Lillian; sixteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, besides other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Melvin, her parents; an infant son and son, Dale; one sister, DeEtte; and two brothers, Jack and Ladell.
