Dr. Lois L. Linn, age 72, of Willmar, died Saturday, May 21, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 28, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Interment will be at the Lake Lillian Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, May 27, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dr. Lois Lucille Linn was born on October 6, 1938, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Stanley and Lucille (Carlson) Linn. She grew up in the Lake Lillian community and was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Lake Lillian. Lois graduated from Bird Island High School in 1956, and from Lutheran Deaconess with her R.N. degree. She graduated from Texas Christian University with her Bachelor of Nursing degree and the University of Minnesota with her Masters degree in Nursing.
Lois joined the U.S. Nursing Corp in 1967. She was the first person in the history of the U.S.N.C. to bypass the rank of Lieutenant to enter as a Captain. Lois volunteered to serve in Viet Nam. She worked in the Tropical Medical Unit in Siagon. Following her discharge in 1969, Lois worked as an R.N. instructor in colleges and hospitals in Florida, Texas, California and Maryland.
In 1977, she earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in Higher Education - Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Lois worked in Medical Adminstration in California, Maryland, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Texas. She also worked as a consultant on Nursing to India and Womens Health and Empowerment in the Ukraine. One of her main convictions was education to women especially in the nursing field.
Lois was a take charge person. She gave of herself willingly to many causes. Lois was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in El Paso, TX. She enjoyed cooking, reading, caring for her flowers and traveling to many countries. She also enjoyed spending time and entertaining her family and friends.
Lois moved to Willmar in 2002 to care for her mother the last five years of her life. Since her move to Willmar, Lois was active on the Senior Citizens Council, Kandiyohi County Historical Society board, AARP and volunteered at Rice Hospital.
Survived by three siblings, Linda (and Jim) Schemmel of Willmar, Luther (and Nancy) Linn of New London and LaRuth (and Greg) Buboltz of Wahpeton, ND.; one aunt, Edna Grof of Willmar; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, besides other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; her infant identical twin sister, Loris Larae and infant brother, Charles.
