Loraine Engelstad, age 98, of Willmar, died Friday evening, December 19, at Copperleaf Senior Living in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Interment will be at Vinje Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Loraine was born July 19, 1916, in Calumet. Michigan, the daughter of Rudolph and Sophie (Strom) Erickson. At an early age her family moved to Alexandria, Minnesota. She was confirmed at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday School and played the organ. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1934 and moved to Willmar in 1936. In 1948, she married Harold Engelstad and they made their home in Willmar. Harold passed away in 1996.
Loraine was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir and belonged to the Women's Association. She was a past matron of Siloam Chapter #79, Order of the Eastern Star and a member for over 60 years. She was a past state president and held local offices in the Postal Auxiliary. She was a charter member and past commander of the DAV, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, past president of the Trainman's Auxiliary, past president and secretary of the early bowling league, and member of the Ladies' Golf Club. She enjoyed travel with Harold, especially their fishing trips to Canada. She was an excellent baker, and enjoyed sharing her cookies with her neighbors. She also loved the Minnesota Twins and listened to nearly every game.
She is survived by a stepdaughter-in-law, Mary Engelstad; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a stepson, Harold "Alan" Engelstad; five brothers, Raymond, Irving, Lloyd, Glen, and Vernon; and a sister, Irene Orner.
