Lorraine M. Van Ort, age 88, of Willmar, died Tuesday evening, January 22, at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. The interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice or Vinje Lutheran Church.
Lorraine Mildred Van Ort was born June 5, 1919, in rural Spicer, the daughter of Ole and Johanna (Hoverstein) Olson. She grew up in rural Spicer and attended District 53 School. On February 2, 1943, she married Roger Van Ort in Fort Benning, Georgia prior to his deployment to France during World War II. Following his discharge, they made their home in Willmar. Lorraine worked as a sales clerk at J.C. Penney's in downtown Willmar for over 30 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Vinje Lutheran Church, where she was active with the ladies' circle. She enjoyed helping others and volunteered at Rice Memorial Hospital in the surgery department. She also enjoyed feeding the birds, reading, playing cards, shopping, baking and her monthly lunches with the Penney's girls. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Lorraine died Tuesday evening at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. She attained the age of 88 years, 7 months and 17 days.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary Erickson of Willmar, Judy (and Jim) Rasmussen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Kristine Van Ort of Brooten; a daughter-in-law, Carol Van Ort of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren, Randy Erickson, Danny (and Kelly) Erickson, Jason (and Lisa) Rasmussen, Joy (and Joe) Fine, Shane Rasmussen, Krystal Stern, Matthew Stern and Shannon Van Ort; three great-grandchildren, Aaron Erickson, Tyler Hainley and Shaye Hainley; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger Van Ort in 1997; a son, Michael Van Ort in 2006; a grandson, Lucas Stern in 1997; two brothers, Edwin Olson and one in infancy; and three sisters, Julia Blick, Alice Tait and Evelyn Himley.
