Louis "Louie" Alvin Smith, age 76, of Willmar, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday morning, Sept. 13. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Military honors will be provided by the Willmar American Legion Post. Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Louie "Louie" Alvin Smith was born on August 24, 1933, on the family farm near Raymond, the son of Alvin and Eleanor (Peglow) Smith. He grew up in the Raymond community, was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and graduated from Raymond High School. Louie served in the U.S. Army in Korea following the war. On April 1, 1969, he was united in marriage to Charlene Lois Bush and they made their home on the family farm near Raymond. Louis was engaged in farming with his brother, Lyle for many years. In October of 2005, he and Charlene moved into Willmar. Louie was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, usher, elder, greeter and mentor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, attending his daughter's and grandchildren's activities, and family trips. Louis also had a strong faith in the Lord.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Charlene of Willmar; one daughter, Marla Smith (and fiance, Scott Moszer) of Paynesville; three grandchildren, Brittney, Cody and Brady, and three brothers, Lyle (and Judy) Smith of Raymond, Lance (and Karen) Smith of Brainerd and Lowell (and Susan) Smith of Willmar, be sides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
