Luverne Alvin "Pete" Peterson was born October 16, 1933, on the family farm in rural Lake Lillian, Minnesota, the son of Elvin and Ida (Tolzmann) Peterson. He grew up and attended District #64 School in Blomkest through 8th grade and then completed 9-12 grade at Willmar High School, where he graduated in 1952. After graduation he continued farming with his father. On May 31, 1958, he married Shirley J. Wilson at Svea Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with 6 children. He later took over the family farm and also did custom work for several area farmers until his retirement at the age of 78. He was a DeKalb seed corn dealer for 35 years which enabled him to share many hours of fellowship with friends and neighbors. In 2008, they moved off the family farm and purchased their retirement home in Blomkest.
His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, trap shooting, shooting pool, playing softball, bowling, dancing, and spending time with family and friends. He was especially known for his infectious laugh which could be heard in any large crowd, Throughout his life he worked hard, played hard, and lived his life to the fullest. In his last years when his health was starting to fail and he became less mobile, it was very important to him to stay in touch with friends and family via cellphone. He always wanted to know how "You" were doing instead of how he was doing. His quick wit, knowledge, endless advice, and amazing sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife: Shirley Peterson of Blomkest; six children: Kent Peterson of Lake Lillian, Carmen Peterson (and special friend, John D'Elia) of Connecticut, Calmon Peterson of Blomkest, Douglas Peterson (and special friend, Deena Hillenbrand) of Blomkest, Karla (and Randy) Anderson of Belgrade, and Zayna (and Jim) Eischens of Willmar; several grandchildren; two-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois (and Maynard) Laumer of Danube; one niece and three nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter: Kally Morgan Anderson.
