Genette M. Nelson, age 96, of Willmar, died Saturday, May 15, at Bethesda PleasantView Nursing Home in Willmar.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m Saturday, May 22, at the Bethel Lutheran Church Chapel in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Memorials are preferred to Bethesda PleasantView.

Genette was born September 15, 1913, in Warba, Minnesota, to Herman and Mary (Ham) Schutt. She grew up and attended school in Pine City, Minnesota, graduating from Pine City High School in 1930. Following high school, she clerked in stores in Pine City, Willow River and Brooten. While working in Brooten, she met Raymond Nelson and they were married on July 2, 1939, in Finlayson, Minnesota. In 1942, they moved to Willmar. Genette worked as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Wards and as an office manager for Bethesda Homes. She also operated Genette's Antiques for 30 years and had a home sewing and monograming business. She was a longtime member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Genette loved reading, music and her dogs. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. She was recently honored to be pictured on the Hospice publications throughout Minnesota.

She is survived by a son, Neal (and Elly) Nelson; a niece, LaDonna (and George) Reynolds; a nephew, Larry (and Beverly) Schutt; great-nephews, Jason (and Tracie) Reynolds and David (and Pam) Reynolds; Great-grand nephews and nieces, Kyle & Kate Reynolds and Jack & Ally Reynolds; a brother-in-law, Leland (and Eleanor) Nelson; other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond in 1978; two brothers, Lyle (and Lillian) Schutt and Donald (and Esther) Schutt; and three sisters-in-law, Verona (and Howard) Starkson, Cleo (and Al) Hinz and Wilma (and Dick) Goertzen.
