Mabel C. Myers, age 92, of Willmar, died Wednesday morning, June 14, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 17, at 10:30 AM, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, June 16, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. Luke's Episcopal Church or the Bethesda Foundation.
Mabel C. Myers was born March 4, 1914 in Lake City, Minnesota, the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Barris) Curtis. She was baptized in the Greek Orthodox Church in New York. She moved to Willmar as a child and attended the Willmar schools. On February 20, 1936, she married Dean Gus Myers in Willmar. They lived in Fargo, North Dakota and Minneapolis for a few years, before returning to Willmar. She worked with her family in the restaurant business at the Times Cafe. She later worked at the Willmar Nursing Home and at Habicht's Department Store during the holidays. She was a member of St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge and past President of the St. Agnes Guild. She was also involved with Home Extension and Card Club.
She is survived by a son, Tyke (and Carol) Myers of Willmar; two grandchildren, Chris (and Dr. David) Newcomer of Willmar and Patty (and Wade) Labatte of Inver Grove Heights and four great-grandchildren, Brady and Kylie Newcomer and Jack and Luke Labatte. Also surviving is a brother, Nick (and Arlene) Curtis of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean in 1969; two brothers, Peter Curtis and James Curtis and two sisters, Bessie Koplos and Georgia Gavaras.
