Marcella "Marcy" Ann Holmquist, age 81, of Willmar, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Jan 4, at her residence in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Jan 6, at the Church of St. Mary. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church with a Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
Marcy was born on October 5, 1930, in Bird Island, Minnesota, the daughter of Nicholas and Susan (Bauman) Wagner. She grew up in Bird Island and attended St. Mary's Parochial School, graduating in 1949. On April 18, 1953, Marcy was united in marriage to James Herman Holmquist and they made their home in Willmar. Marcy worked as a cook and waitress at the Willmar Golf Course, V.F.W., the Snack Bar in downtown Willmar and John's Supper Club. She was a member of the Church of St. Mary, being active on the church bazaar committee and the Daughters of Isabella and member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Marcy received the Bishop's Medal of Service from the Diocese of New Ulm. Her favorite interests included flowers, cooking, crafts and her beloved family.
She is survived by her six children, Debra (and John) Pikus of Spicer, Jodi (and Tony) Neis of Willmar, Terry (and Gary) Guenther of Willmar, Cheryl Holmquist of Willmar, Brad (and Jodi) Holmquist of Clear Lake and Tom (and Sue) Holmquist of Willmar; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Also surviving is a sister, Edna Wandersee of Minneapolis, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James in 2010; one great granddaughter, Hannah; two brothers, Nicholas Jr. and Wilfred and nine sisters, Dorothy, Margaret, Marion, Winnifred, Kathlene, Helen, Frances, Elizabeth and Ethel.
