Margaret "Peg" Mossberg, age 89, of Spicer, died Friday morning, March 9, at Central Minnesota Senior Care in Lake Lillian.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, March 15, at the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Thursday, March 15, at Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.
Margaret "Peg" Mossberg was born on October 14, 1928, in Twelve Mile, Indiana, the daughter of Anthony Carr and Mary (Brown) Hemmersbaugh. She graduated from Humboldt High School in St. Paul, MN and then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Textiles and Home Economics. On June 23, 1950, Peg was united in marriage to Douglas Philip Mossberg and to this union they were blessed with nine children. Doug and Peg made their home in Wabasha, South Saint Paul, Fairmont, New Ulm, Minnetonka, Green Lake and finally retiring to the farm on County Road 40. Peg later returned to college and earned her C.P.A. degree. She worked as a tax accountant in New Ulm and later owned and operated Mossberg Tax Service in New London. Peg studied mushrooms and loved hunting them. She and Doug traveled around the United States attending mushroom forays. She also studied photography and traveled with Doug to Elder Hostels all over the United States and Canada. Peg was a member of the Minnesota Mycological Society, the Minnesota Hosta Society where she had numerous photos published in the American Hosta Journal. She was also a member of the Little Crow Photography Club, Green Lake Garden Club, Kandiyohi County Horticulture Society, Pioneer Land Library board member and a college sorority member. She enjoyed reading and was active with the New London Book Club and gardening where she has been a Master Gardener since 1974.
She is survived by seven children, Dale (and Holly) Mossberg of Spicer, David Mossberg of Tucson, AZ, Barbara (and Larry) Levin of Spicer, Bill (and Rose) Mossberg of Cologne, Helen (and Robert) Ruebel of Olivia, Margaret (and Gary) Tolle of Richfield and Jeanne (and Kirk) Norby of Corvallis, MT; one daughter-in-law, Andrea Mossberg of New London; fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Richard (and Mary) Hemmersbaugh of Hibbing and one sister-in-law, Verna Hemmersbaugh of Eden Prairie, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglas in 2016; two daughters, Mary Jo and Ruth; one brother, William and one sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and William Marshall.
