Marian M. Pladsen, age 76, of Kandiyohi, died Saturday evening, January 2nd, at the Golden Living Center in Olivia.
A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, January 16th, at the First Presbyterian Church in Willmar. The interment will be in the spring at the Green Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Spicer. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Kandiyohi County 4-H. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Willmar.
Marian Murdoch Pladsen was born on January 30, 1933 at Tuffnell, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of James and Emma (McKecknie) Dryden. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from high school in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. She attended the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1955. She moved to Willmar, Minnesota to work for Kandiyohi County as 4-H Agent. May 1, 1959 she married Virgil Pladsen in Willmar and they made their home on Virgil's farm in rural Kandiyohi. They farmed together and she was active in the community until she entered a care facility in 2008 due to advancing Alzheimer's. She became a citizen of the U.S. in 1976 during a naturalization ceremony at the state capital in St. Paul. She served on the Green Lake Cemetery Board and the board of directors of Bethesda. She belonged to the Kandiyohi County Historical Society and was a member of Sons of Norway and Hallinglag and served as President of both organizations. Marian was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and instructor for the Bethel Bible Series.
Marian is survived by her son: Scott (and Kay) Pladsen of Minneapolis; two sisters: Margaret Dryden of Foam Lake, Saskatchewan and June Letwin of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba; her nieces and nephews: Philip and Alan Dryden, Linda Evans, Shele, Sharlane, and William Letwin and their families, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: James and Emma Dryden; her husband of 50 years: Virgil; daughter: Colleen; and brother: Robert Dryden.
