Marie H. Nelson, age 100, of Montevideo, formerly of Atwater, died Sunday morning, June 3, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater with Rev. Daniel Belgum-Blad officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Atwater. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Atwater Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marie Helen Nelson was born on November 6, 1906, in Boone County, Iowa, the daughter of August and Anna (Seeman) Peterson. She grew up in the rural Woodward and Bouton, Iowa community, attended rural schools and was baptized and confirmed in Bouton, Iowa. She moved with her family to Atwater in the 1920s. On April 21, 1926, she was united in marriage to Delmar Robin Nelson in Atwater, where they made their home. In 2000, she moved to Montevideo and resided at Luther Haven Nursing Home. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she was she was active with the Ladies Aid for many years. Marie loved crocheting afghans, doilies and hankies. Her garden was a tribute to her love of flowers.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (and Louis) Coubal of Montevideo; five grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernie (and Betty) Peterson of Duluth and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmar Robin in 1975; three brothers, Carl Peterson, William Peterson and John Peterson and a sister, Annie Hamel. .
