Marion Bernice Manthei was born on February 1, 1925, on the family farm in Fahlun Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the daughter of Manus and Bessie (Roelofs) Bosch. She grew up in the rural Kandiyohi community and received her education from the District #79 country school. On October 12, 1944, at Svea Lutheran Church, Marion was united in marriage to Maurice Manthei. They made their home on a farm near Kandiyohi. Marion worked hard as a homemaker and was employed as a community health aide. She was a life member of Tripolis Lutheran Church and was active with the ladies aide and in bible study. She was an active volunteer at the Humane Society of Kandiyohi County (now known as the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter). Marion was active with the Little Crow Lapidary and Mineral Society, the History Hunters Club, the Ancient Artifact Preservation Society and the Friendship Group. Her hobbies included being outdoors, gardening, animals, reading, studying ancient history and traveling all across the world.

She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn (and Jon) Manthei-Lund of Fridley, Colleen (and Glen) Brandt of Coon Rapids and Gail Manthei of Richfield; and eight four-legged grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maurice in 1994; three brothers, Ervin, Arthur and Walter; and one sister, Myrtle.
