Marion Melby

Marion Lucile Melby, age 94, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, November 6, at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar.
A memorial service will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 11, at Calvary Lutheran Church. The interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Thursday, November 10, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marion was born on October 30, 1917, in Willmar the oldest daughter of Ceil "Cecil" and Christine (Trolson) Baker. She grew up in rural Pennock, attended rural school and completed her education in the Willmar Public Schools. On October 17, 1936, she married Arthur Obed Melby in Watertown, SD and they made their home in Willmar. During WW II she drove taxi cab in Willmar and later worked for the West Central Tribune in the Jobs Department. Marion worked for over 20 years as a cashier for Tom and Bill's Red Owl and was proud to be recognized as the cashier from the grocery store. She was a life-member of Calvary Lutheran Church, member of the ladies circle and had been a member of the Willmar Eagle's Auxiliary. For the past five years she resided at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Marion loved being with her family and friends, enjoyed bowling (in her younger years) and entertaining all the Melby's on Memorial Day.
She is survived by four children: Richard (and Caryn) Melby of McKinney, TX, Carolyn (and Bruce) Olson of Spicer, Michael (and Susan) Melby of Minong, WI, and Mark (and Cathy) Melby of Fredericktown, MO. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1999; and three sisters: Florence Reich, Frances Bjork and Anna Marie Beliveau.
