Mark Schmitz

Mark  William  Schmitz, of 62, of Willmar, passed away unexpectedly June 29, at his residence in Willmar.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Long Prairie.  Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. www.petersonbrothers.com

Mark William Schmitz was born on April 5, 1958, in Long Prairie, Minnesota, the son of Dorothy Marie Clendenin and Julian John Schmitz.  He grew up in Long Prairie and graduated from high school in 1976.  Following high school, Mark joined the United States Air Force where he repaired jet engines.  He also worked as an auto mechanic for 30+ years.  Mark  met Joan Pauline Maclachlan in 1980 and they were married in 1981 in the United Kingdom.  Together they raised one child, Victoria Elizabeth Schmitz.  Mark enjoyed watching NASCAR and the Minnesota Vikings.  On his 50th birthday, he got his wish to see a live NASCAR race in Dallas, Texas.

Mark  is survived by his daughter, Victoria (and David) Taylor of Odessa, TZ.; his son, Adam Gregory of Belgrade; two beautiful grandchildren, Hailey and Bradyn; his mother, Dorothy Schmitz-Johnson of Cambridge; four siblings, Patricia Reed, Steve Schmitz, Nancy Schmitz and Scott Schmitz; and many nieces and nephews .

He was preceded in death by his father, Julian Schmitz.
