Marlow J. Engebretson, age 89, of Spicer, died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 26, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, at Augusta Cemetery in Marietta. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marlow Joel Engebretson was born on October 12, 1922, on the family farm in Mehurin Township, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota, the son of John "Ben" and Emma (Harstad) Engebretson. He grew up near Revillo and graduated from Revillo High School in 1941. On December 22, 1945, Marlow was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Bette" J. Jorgenson and they lived and farmed in the Marietta area. In 1956, they moved into town and Marlow was employed at the Farmers Grain Company Elevator. In 1969, they moved to Spicer where he worked for the Green Lake Grain and Seed Company. Marlow was last employed at the WRTC in Housekeeping Services for seven years, retiring in 1985.
In his retirement years, Marlow enjoyed bowling, boating, feeding birds, especially purple martins. He also loved the game of golf and played it until the age of 89. Marlow achieved 3 holes-in-one at the Little Crow Country Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Bette of Spicer; his three children, Ron Engebretson of Spicer, Dennis (and Hafizan) Engebretson of St. Paul and Marie (and Mark) Harris of San Antonio, TX.; two grandchildren, Karen and Andrew and one-great granddaughter, Charlotte. Also surviving is one sister, Sylvia (and Myron) Halvorson of Madison, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Beaumont and one sister, Elaine.
