Mary E. Boonstra, age 81, of Alexandria, formerly of Willmar, died Thursday, December 10th, at the Clearwater Suites Assisted Living Center in Alexandria.
Memorial service will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, December 17th, at the First Covenant Church with Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating. The interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Mary Elizabeth Boonstra was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, on August 6, 1928, to Milton and Flossie (Harlow) Morrison. She was the youngest of nine children. She grew up in that area and received her education. "She married Peter on May 14,1949, in Mason City, Iowa. Due to her husband's employment, they lived in numerous communities within Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, and finally in Minnesota. During those moves she established a comfortable home for her family. Mary worked primarily in banking and real estate for over thirty years, and retired from Corneil-Elkjer in 1990. Mary passed onto her children a strong work ethic and pride in our homes. She enjoyed music, walks, and time with her family and friends. Mary was very sociable and enjoyed being with people.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan (and Stuart) Mackechney of Alexandria, MN; one son, Jon (and Connie) Boonstra of Buffalo, MN; four grandchildren, Leslie (and Scott) Gearey, Todd (and Stacy) Boonstra, Jason (and Cheryl) Boonstra and Mitchell Mackechney; six great-grandchildren knew her as Great- Grandma "B"; one sister Bertha Holmes of Oskaloosa, Iowa; twin brothers, Earl (and Phyllis) Morrison of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Burl (and Shirley) Morrison of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Barbara (and Jack) Judy of Laguna Nignel, California; many nieces and nephews, besides other relatives and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Peter Albert; parents Milton and Flossie Morrison; four sisters, Lola Brewer, Anna Huffman, Wilda Kelly, Lena Toll and one brother, Tom Morrison.
Mary will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A special thank you to the very professional and kind staff of Clearwater Suites and Hospice of Douglas County.
