Mary Lou Olson, age 84, of Willmar, died Saturday morning, August 16, at Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home in Willmar.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, at Bethel Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Rice Hospice or Bethel Lutheran Church are preferred. Mary Lou Olson was born on February 6, 1930, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Jalmer and Olga (Johnson) Wallin. She grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School 1948. In 1957, Mary Lou was married to Norbert A. Grieger who later died in 1972. In 1982, Mary Lou was married to Norman J. Olson who later died in 1996. On November 20, 1999, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar, Mary Lou was married to Marvin D. Olson. Mary Lou lived her entire life in the Willmar community and was employed as a bookkeeper for the Ridler and Westberg Accounting Firm, the IRS and also prepared taxes for family and friends.
Mary Lou was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, Willmar Bowling League, Doe's Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, Willmar Country Club, Bethel Lutheran Quilting Club and the prison ministry program.
Mary Lou loved to travel, play golf, make quilts, knit, crochet, garden and spend time with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bridge, crossword puzzles and host coffee groups in her home. She spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin of Willmar; two daughters, Kristy Grieger of New Hope and Nancy (and Steven) Hagberg of Port Orange, Florida; two siblings, LaVonne "Vonnie" Wallin of Willmar and Jerry (and Barb) Wallin of Plymouth; one granddaughter, Sydney Hagberg of Port Orange, Florida and one sister-in-law, Marcia Wallin of Vadnais Heights. Also surviving are four step-children, ten step-grandchildren and numerous step-great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Norbert Grieger and Norman Olson; one sister, Jean "Toots" Jacobson and one brother, Dr. Owen Wallin.
