Mary Ruth Rossell, age 69, of Spicer, died Friday evening, April 13th, at Rice Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, April 23rd, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Underdahl-Peirce officiating. The interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Mary Ruth Rossell was born on July 29, 1937, in Britton, South Dakota, the daughter of Mildred A. (Skoglund) and Elliott C. Hanscom. She grew up in the Willmar community, was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church, graduated from Willmar High School in 1955 and attended business school in Willmar. In 1955, she was married to William G. Hougen. They lived in the Twin Cities area and divorced in 1961. On September 28, 1965, she was married to Jerome E. Rossell. They also lived in the Twin Cities area and spent their summers on Green Lake in Spicer. They were divorced in December of 1977. Mary was employed at various jobs and at Willmar Poultry Company. She retired in 1979 to be a care giver for her parents and daughter that were in ill health.
Mary was an accomplished pianist and an avid reader. She enjoyed fishing, swimming, crocheting, playing trivia games and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by one daughter; Lisa Ann Hougen (and special friend, Larry Norton) of Spicer and two sisters; Marjorie Honer of Grey Eagle and Marilyn (and Bill) Schmidke of Grey Eagle, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Pamela in August of 2006, and a niece, Brenda Loken.
