Mary Elizabeth Vilven, 87, of Willmar, died Thursday, October 28, at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 1, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 2-4 PM on Sunday, October 31 at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Mary was born November 1, 1922, in Albion, Nebraska, to James and Birdie (Gill) Brundage. At a young age she moved with her family to a farm near Bagley and graduated from Bagley High School. On September 3, 1943, in Bagley, Mary was united in marriage to Stephen E. Vilven. While Stephen was serving in the U.S. Air Force, they lived throughout the United States and Guam. In 1956, they moved to Willmar and in 1963, moved to a farm near Hermantown. In the 1980's they moved to Farmington, New Mexico and returned to Willmar in 1992. She was a current member of the Crossroads United Methodist Church in Spicer. Mary was a past member of T.O.P.S. and the Willmar Area Senior Citizens. She enjoyed making crafts, sewing, baking and watching the lake with her dogs from her window on Eagle Lake. Her family has fond memories of her Sunday afternoon dinners of fried chicken and mashed potatoes and gravy.
She is survived by four children, Birdie Swenson and Stephania Vilven, both of Willmar, Charles (and Shelly) Vilven of Spicer and Keith Vilven of Willmar; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother: Bob (and Bonnie) Brundage of Redlands, CA; besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Stephen in 2000; a daughter in infancy; and a sister: Lucille Fischer.
