Mathias "Math" R. Kotzenmacher, age 83, of Willmar, died Tuesday evening, March 10th, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 14th, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar with Fr. Steven Verhelst officiating. The interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 P.M. Friday at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a Parish Prayer Service at 4:30 P.M. Friday and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Math Kotzenmacher was born on August 13, 1925 near Parkston, South Dakota, the son of John and Anna (Hebaus) Kotzenmacher. He grew up in the Parkston area and moved with his family to rural Priam in about 1935. He continued his education in the District 80 rural school. Math moved to Willmar in 1947. On May 29, 1954, he married Adeline Halls in Willmar. Math worked for the Minnesota Highway Department for over forty years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Church of St. Mary, where he sang in the church choir, served as an usher for over 50 years, was a 3rd degree Knight of Columbus and was active with the Catholic Aid Association. He was also a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union. He enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Adeline; seven children, Linda (and Steven) Johnson of White Bear Lake, Gregory (and Annette) Kotzenmacher of Willmar, Steven (and Lori Morton) Kotzenmacher of Willmar, Ronald (and Lorri) Kotzenmacher of Willmar; Diane (and Todd) Birkland of Willmar; Karen Swenson of Willmar, and Jerry (and Cynthia) Kotzenmacher of Inver Grove Heights; seventeen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Joe Kotzenmacher of Raymond; three sisters, Rose Hirman of Cokato, Mary Svobodny of Willmar and Betty (and Bud) Sjoquist of Coon Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Kotzenmacher and William Kotzenmacher; and two sisters, Agnes Kotzenmacher in infancy and Julie Sperlich.
