Maurice Bomstad

WILLMAR

Maurice W. Bomstad, age 88, of Willmar, died Thursday afternoon, June 15th, at the Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Tuesday, June 20th, at the First Baptist Church in Willmar with Rev. Phil Lutz, Dr. Robert Snyder and Rev. Ronald Snyder officiating. The interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M., Monday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service.
Maurice Walter Bomstad was born on June 10, 1918, in Lake Lillian Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the son of Tilda (Berglund) and Asa Bomstad. He grew up on the family farm and attended District 83 school through eighth grade. On December 22, 1940, he was married to Evelyn Winter in Blomkest. He continued to farm with his father and brothers in Lake Lillian Township. In August of 1941, they moved to Willmar and he began working for the Great Northern Railroad as a fireman in Willmar. He later became an engineer and retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1981. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Maurice was a member of First Baptist Church in Willmar for over 60 years and served as a trustee, deacon and on the Boy Scout Board.
He is survived by wife, Evelyn of Willmar, five children: Gary (and Lois Pinsent) Bomstad of Williams Lake, British Columbia, Linda (and John) Taylor of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nancy (and Ronald Snyder of Willmar, Susan (and Leland) Granlund of Roseville and Dale (and Debra) Bomstad of Willmar. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one brother, Stanley Bomstad of Renville and one sister, Marion Erickson of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter (Judith Mclver), one grandson, one brother and three sisters.
