Maurine Ann Smith, age 91, of Willmar and formerly of Spicer and Grove City, died Thursday morning, November 28, Thanksgiving Day, peacefully in her sleep.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, at the First Baptist Church in Grove City. A private interment was held earlier at the First Baptist Cemetery in Grove City. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. www.petersonbrothers.com
Maurine Ann Smith was born on September 3, 1928, in Litchfield, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Malmquist) Erickson. She grew up on a farm north of Grove City and graduated from Grove City High School in 1946. In 1947, Maurine was married to Wendell G. Smith and they made their home on the family farm. Maurine worked hard as a homemaker and was active in the Grove City Baptist Church. In the 1980’s, Maurine and Wendell moved to Green Lake in Spicer. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, entertaining friends and family and bible study. Maurine will be best remembered for her sweet smile and grateful heart.
She is survived by two children, Cyndi (and Guy) Chetrit of Spicer and Kraig (and Jackie) Smith of Montana; daughter-in-law, Jodi Smith of Grove City; twenty-one grandchildren; over sixty great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Eileen Erickson of Litchfield and Marian Allen of Grove City, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wendell in 2013; two sons, Steven in infancy and Kent in 2019; and one brother, Anro in 2013.
