Maxine Marie Monson, 88, of Willmar, died Friday, June 1, at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at the Church of the Nazarene in Willmar. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Maxine Marie Monson was born June 8, 1918, near Breckenridge, Minnesota, the daughter of Ray and Emma (Wait) Rogers. She attended country school and later married Gordon Charles Spencer in 1936. To this union were born five children. Gordon and Maxine moved their family to Willmar in 1942. Gordon died in 1961. She married Peter Harlan Monson in 1963. Throughout her life, she was employed by Central Dairy, Puritan Cafe, Lee-Fuhr Chiropractic Clinic and as a domestic for many Willmar families. Maxine also enjoyed an Avon career for over 30 years. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene, where she served on the board, was active in Bible Study and taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She was also a member of the Friendly Dozen Club.
She is survived by her husband, Peter H. Monson of Willmar; three daughters, Doris (and John) Larson of Willmar, Ruby (and Delmar) Douma of Lake Lillian and Janice (and James) Wittman of Lake Lillian; a son, Larry (and Robin) Spencer of Willmar; a son-in-law, Robert Masters of Spicer; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also survived are five sisters, Gertrude Welden of Boise, Idaho, Erma Bradley of Lodi, California, Alyce Schuster of Wahpeton, North Dakota, Lola (and Don) Freitag of Wahpeton, North Dakota and Eileen (and Harvey) Willprecht of Willmar and two brothers, Eugene Rogers of Granville, North Dakota and Forrest (and Becky) Rogers of Sparks, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Gordon Spencer; a daughter, Charlotte Masters; a son-in-law John D. Ruter; a grandson, Ron Larson; two brothers, Ray and Chauncey and two sisters, Florence Kiser and Edith Peterson.
