Melva Jacobson

Melva M. Jacobson, age 88, of Willmar, died Wednesday evening, October 10, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 19, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date in the South Blue Earth Cemetery near Bricelyn.

Melva M. Jacobson was born on May 9, 1924, in Winthrop, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Anna Lindstrand. She was baptized in Winthrop and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon. She attended District #65 school in Severance Township, graduated from Gibbon High School in 1942 and Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. She taught for 3 1/2 years in Bricelyn, MN. On August 18, 1946, Melva was united in marriage to Carroll E. Jacobson. They made their home in Bricelyn until 1957 when they moved to Comfrey and became partners in the Lindstrand Implement Company with C. Burton and Arline Lindstrand. In 1963, they purchased the dealership in Willmar from the Molenaar Brothers. Melva worked in the John Deere office. She and Carroll went on several trips through the John Deere Company to Hawaii, Washington D.C. and Ft. Worth, TX. Melva was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, was President of the ELCA, active in the Ruth and Dorcas Circle and helped with quilting and rug making. She enjoyed working in the Vinje church library, did hospital visitations for many years, and was a volunteer for Meal on Wheels. She also kept busy doing the bookkeeping for Jake's Pizza. Melva was a President of the P.T.A. in Bricelyn and Comfrey; a Sunday school Superintendent in Bricelyn and a den mother for Cub Scouts. She enjoyed gardening and sharing vegetables and flowers with her family and friends. Among other things she enjoyed baking, reading, quilting, playing cards and entertaining her loved ones. Melva will be remembered as a compassionate, caring person with a generous heart.

She is survived by three children, C.W. "Bud" (and Leann) Jacobson of Willmar, Bette (and Warren) Zaffke of Moorhead and Joel (and Lori) Jacobson of Willmar; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Frances Meuleners of Ft. Washington, PA., Helen (and Bill) Neubarth of Winthrop, Betty Abrahamson of Grand Marais; one brother, Franklin Lindstrand of Willmar, and one sister-in-law, Arline Lindstrand of Atwater.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carroll on Monday, October 8; one brother, C. Burton Lindstrand and one sister, Margaret Lindstrand.
