Michael K. Forbes, Sr., age 70, of Willmar, died Thursday morning, September 27, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 1, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post #167. Michael Kent Forbes, Sr. was born March 4, 1948, in San Diego, California, the son of Paul and Mildred (Farmer) Forbes. He grew up and graduated from high school in San Diego, where he played football and was a state champion wrestler. He began surfing when he was four years old and continued to surf for 45 years. Michael served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After the war, he returned to California where he worked printing blueprints and as a master painter. Michael was married to his first wife, Pat, and they were blessed with two children, Michael Jr. and Angela. He later married his second wife, Cindy, and they were blessed with two children, David and Sarah. He later moved to Minnesota and worked in the meat department at Cub Foods in Willmar for several years. In 2004, he married Susan Marie Paradee and they continued to reside in Willmar.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Forbes of Willmar; four children, Michael, Angela, David and Sarah; five grandchildren, Will, Kylie, Sophie, Nathan and Trevor; and three half-brothers, Philip, John, and Willy; besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Sr. and Mildred; and his brother, Paul Jr., who was killed in Vietnam in 1968.
