Michael V. Schwanke, age 50, of rural Raymond, MN, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon, October 3, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 7, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Thursday, October 6, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Michael Virgil Schwanke was born on December 4, 1960, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Virgil V. and Agnes G. (Spartz) Schwanke. He grew up in the Willmar community, received his education at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Willmar High School in 1979. Mike grew up working for the family business, Schwanke Tractor and Truck on and off most of his life. He worked with his grandfather, Alvin Schwanke, on the farm near Raymond and after his grandfather's death continued to farm. On January 8, 1983, he was married to Lori Ann Ridler and they made their home on the farm. He also worked for Allied Grain, Mark's Machine Shop and owned and operated Mike's Fix It Shop at his farm. He loved being with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren, they were the light of his life. Mike enjoyed doing things for others and was always there if someone needed something repaired or just a helping hand. He enjoyed fishing, working in his machine shop and pulling a good prank on family and friends.
He is survived by his fiance: Sharon Paler of Raymond; two children: Mark Schwanke (and fiance, Nicole Niemeyer) of Olivia and Angela (and Justin) Paffrath of Sedona, AZ and two stepsons: Charles (and Kayla) Paler of New Prague and Wayne (and Shauna) Paler of Annandale. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Owen, Kendal, Addison, Ariana and Charles "Ethan"; his parents: Virgil and Agnes Schwanke of Willmar and his sister: Connie (and Dave) Burns of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents and two uncles; Bud Schwanke and Bill Person.
