Michael J. Yanacheak, age 75, of Willmar, passed away Monday evening, January 29, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are entrusted to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
Michael James Yanacheak was born on May 25, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Peter and Carole (Larson) Yanacheak. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1968. Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Viet Nam. Following his service, Michael moved to St. Paul and worked as a security officer at the MN State Capital. Following his retirement in the early 2000's, he returned to Willmar. Michael enjoyed traveling, watching PGA golf on tv, being an avid MN Vikings fan and attending family get togethers. Michael was also very patriotic and loved his country. He adored all of his family and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by one sister, Katherine Hunter of Buffalo; one niece, Shani (and Mark) Gutknecht of Buffalo and two nephews, Chad Olsen of Rochester and Ryan Coleman of Mission Viejo, CA., besides other relatives and friends.
