Mildred Holverson

Mildred "Milly" Ruth Holverson, age 96, of Willmar, died Saturday evening, August 2, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, August 6, at the United Methodist Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar (www.petersonbrothers.com).

Mildred was born June 19, 1918, in Lake Preston, South Dakota, the daughter of Oscar and Minnie (Larson) Mack. She grew up in Lake Preston and graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1936 as Valedictorian of her class. While in high school, Milly excelled in swimming, playing the trombone and was awarded Girls State. She then attended the Minnesota School of Business for secretarial training. On August 31, 1941, she married Shirle E. Holverson and they lived in Madison, South Dakota. While Shirle served in World War II, Milly lived in Sioux City, Iowa, where she worked in an ammunition plant. Following the war, they moved to Willmar where Milly was the secretary at the United Methodist Church and later at Lundquist-Anderson Law Firm until her retirement in 1978. They enjoyed spending her summers on George Lake and winters in Arizona.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Church Circle and numerous committees. She was also active with P.E.O, Order of the Eastern Star, Shrine Auxiliary, and bridge club. She enjoyed being outdoors, swimming, fishing, music, traveling, playing cards and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, especially wild game, pies and bars.

She is survived by two children, Gregory Holverson of Bismarck, ND and Patricia Peterson of Willmar; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren: Dr. Brett & Carrie Peterson (and children Jaden & Mackenna) of Willmar; Dr. Jason & Nicholle Peterson (Megan, Madison, Jacob, Joshua & Meredith) of Willmar; Tricia Peterson (Bryce, Bailee & Brielle) of Willmar; Dr. Deric & Jessica Peterson (Olivia & Benjamin) of Cold Spring, MN; Seth Holverson (Oliver & Eleanor) of Portland, OR; Ryan Holverson (and special friend, Brittany) of Bismarck, ND; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Shirle; a sister, Darlene Albrecht; two brothers, Lloyd Mack and Lyle Mack; two granddaughters, Heather and one in infancy; and her son-in-law, Dr. Bruce Peterson.
