Mildred G. Kemp, age 81, of Willmar, died Tuesday morning, August 28, at Rice Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 31, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.
Mildred was born on September 26, 1925, in Warroad, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred and Nellie (Berkman) Green. She grew up in the Warroad community, graduated from Warroad High School in 1943 and the University of California, Berkley with a degree in education. She taught Home Economics at the high school in Sutter, California. On November 18, 1950, Mildred was married to Donald L. Kemp and they made their home in Sutter, California. In 1953, they moved to Minnesota and taught school in Warroad, La Porte, Red Lake and Staples. In 1982, they moved to Willmar and purchased the K.F.C. restaurant. They retired in 1990 and moved to Cherokee Village, Arkansas. Since March of 2007, they have resided in Willmar for health reasons.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of Willmar; two sons, David Kemp of Willmar and Gary (and Carolye) Kemp of Los Alamos, New Mexico; three daughters, Karen Kemp, Brenda (and Ronald) Weishalla and Kristi Malvin, all of Willmar; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
