Miles Quale

Miles S. Quale, age 91, of Willmar, died Wednesday afternoon, June 13, at the Rice Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 18, 11 A.M. at the Vinje Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Knudson officiating. Interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post # 167. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Memorials to the Vinje Lutheran Church or the Willmar Humane Society are preferred.

Miles Sanford Quale was born on January 3, 1916, near Murdock, the son of Mathilda S. (Haugen) and Martin A. Quale. He grew up in the rural Murdock community, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from the Kerkhoven High School. He attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. On October 6, 1941, in Willmar, he was married to Margaret M. Gavin. He served in the U.S. Army medical corps during World War II. For over 47 years he was engaged in real estate sales in the Willmar community. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, member of local and state Realtor organizations, was a secretary of the Minnesota Realtors Association, active member of the Humane Society for 17 years, received the Henry Bergh Award in 1994 for service to the Humane Society, in 1979 received the Eagles Humanitarian Award, member of the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Posse, active in Quarterhorse breeding and training, active member of the Rifle and Pistol Club, 60 year member of the American Legion and an active member of Vinje Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son, Alan (and Mary) Quale of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter, Kay (and Tom) Ragatz of Prior Lake; three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Philip (and Maxine) Quale and Dr. Dean (and Myra) Quale, both of Spicer; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, a daughter and two sisters.
