Morris S. Leaf, 86, of Willmar, died Friday, May 20, at Sterling House in Willmar.
Memorial services will be 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, , at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. A private burial will be in Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be 1/2 hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Morris was born March 31, 1925 in Sunburg, Minnesota, the son of Herbert and Anna (Gunderson) Leaf. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school in the rural Sunburg area. At age 14, he began working for hire at area farms. In August 1944, he married Lois Hansen. They lived east of Willmar for 40 years. Morris worked 38 years operating heavy equipment for the Kandiyohi County Highway Department. He retired at age 57 and then worked on the Allan Loge farm for seven years and later drove the Kandiyohi school bus for a couple years. Morris moved to Independence Place in February 2004 and most recently resided at Sterling House in Willmar.
Morris was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, where helped cook for the lutefisk dinner and helping with yard work. He was also a Golden Eagle member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He served on the Cloverleaf Cemetery Board for several years. He hunted ducks, pheasant and deer, and looked forward to the hunting the deer opener in Sunburg every year. He enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, gardening and bird watching. He also enjoyed racing, and raced in Sunburg during his younger years.
He is survived by a grandson, Shawn (and Connie) Skramstad of Shakopee; a brother, Alan (and Betty) Leaf of Blaine; three sisters, Marsha (and Wendell) Skindelien of Sunburg, Ramona (and Jim) Christenson of Willmar and Mavis (and Jim) Jorgenson of Sunburg; a brother-in-law, Galen Borstad, of Appleton; a sister-in-law, Ardis Leaf of Willmar; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by her parents; his wife, Lois on April 21; a daughter, Marlys Grundmeyer in 1996; four brothers, Howard, Luverne, Ardell and Duane Leaf; a sister, Mary Ann Borstad; and a nephew, Lonnie Meyer.
