Morse F. Watkins, age 90, of Willmar, died Monday, January 18, at Bethesda Heritage Center Nursing Home in Willmar.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 23, at Salem Covenant Church in Pennock. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar at a later date. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM with a prayer and sharing service at 7 PM on Friday, January 22, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Salem Covenant Church.
Morse Franklin Watkins was born October 7, 1919, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was adopted in infancy by Frank and Flora (Dykema) Watkins. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1939. He married Dorothy Sands in 1943 in Willmar. Morse worked on the family farm and took over the operations in 1948 and farmed until 1964. He then was employed as parts manager for Lindstrand-Jacobson John Deere Implement franchise from 1964 until 1972. He then worked in real estate and farm sales with the Jim Nichols Agency until his retirement. Dorothy died in 1992. Morse married Lorraine Sands in 1993.
Morse was a chairperson for the local and state boards of Farm Bureau, a Salvation Army Advisory Board member, a 4H leader, and a past board member and president of the Senior Citizens. He was a former member of First Covenant Church, where he served on the church board and as Sunday school superintendent. He was a current member of Salem Covenant Church.
He is survived by his wife: Lorraine Watkins of Willmar; two sons: Ron (and Kathy) Watkins and Bruce (and Geri) Watkins, both of St. Cloud; two daughters: Kathy (and David) Plumb of Minneapolis and Sharon (and Geoffrey) Miller of Plymouth; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-sons: Gary (and Carol) Sands of Huntley and Bary Sands of Winona and all of their families, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Dorothy and a son-in-law, Ric Emery.
