Myron Stockland

September 28, 1930 — February 18, 2012

Myron E. "Sonny" Stockland, age 81, of Willmar, died Saturday morning, Feb. 18, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, Feb. 24, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.

Myron was born on September 28, 1930, on the family farm near Priam, Minnesota, the son of Gunvald and Ann (Hendrickson) Stockland. He grew up in the Priam community, received his education in country schools in Priam and near Kerkhoven and returned to work on the family farm. From 1952-1954, Myron served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed overseas in Germany. On September 26, 1959, he was married to Betty Jean Prechel. They made their home in Willmar where he worked with his brothers in the carpentry business. For over 28 years, Myron was employed at Jennie-O Foods as a Refrigeration Engineer, retiring in 2000.

Myron was an avid fan of NASCAR. He also enjoyed woodworking, bird watching and being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Willmar; one son, Scott (and Sandra) Stockland of Litchfield and one grandson, Zachary. Also surviving are two sisters, Agnes Mohrbacher and Margaret Stockland, both of Golden Valley, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eli, Sigvald and Gehard and two sisters, Ethel and Gunhild.
