Neil H. Cofer, age 76, of Willmar, died unexpectedly Sunday evening at his home in Willmar.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday. www.petersonbrothers.com
Neil Harold Cofer was born on May 23, 1936, in Onamia, Minnesota, the son of Harold and Madeline (Gilmer) Cofer. He grew up in St. Cloud and graduated from St. Cloud Tech High School in 1954. Neil joined the U.S. Army and served as a MP. In 1958, in St. Cloud, he was married to Janet Prigge. They lived in various places and since 1970, have resided in the Willmar community. Neil was self-employed as a police and security officer, owner and operator of the Willmar Cab Company, truck driver, insurance and real estate agent and a property manager. He retired in 2001. Neil volunteered for many years as an election judge. His hobbies included tinkering, woodworking, computers and visiting with his friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet of Willmar; one son, Jim Cofer of Willmar; two daughters, Julie (and Doug) Ledeboer of Prinsburg and Jeanne Knake of Willmar; one daughter-in-law, Sandy Cofer of Willmar; seven grandchildren, two (and one on the way) great grandchildren; one sister, LaDonna Burr of McLean, Virginia, besides several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joel Cofer in 2009; one great granddaughter, Abigail Hauer; one sister, Betty Merten and one nephew, Roland Merten.
