Nettie Emily Manthey, age 90, of Willmar, formerly of Murdock, died on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials to Rice Care Center.
Nettie was born on October 19, 1920, in Louriston Township, Chippewa County, south of Murdock, Minnesota to William and Emma (Sierks) Gregersen. On December 1st, 1940, Nettie was united in marriage to Ernest Manthey at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. The couple lived and farmed in the Kerkhoven area. Nettie helped on the farm and raised chickens. In 1950, they purchased their farm in Murdock. They continued to farm until 1974, when they retired and moved to Willmar. Since September 27, 2007, Nettie had resided at Rice Care Center.
She was a former member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Murdock and a current member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. She was active with the church women's circle and quilting group. Nettie loved spending time with her family and friends and entertaining any and all. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, crocheting, baking, fishing and playing cards.
She is survived by her children: Gordon Manthey of Sumner, WA, Dianna Johnson of Montevideo, Ronald (and Donna) Manthey of Granite Falls, Donald (and Deidre) Manthey of Fountain Valley, CA, Erlynn (and Jodie) Manthey of Stafford, VA, Arlene (and Calvin) Carls of Pennock; a daughter-in-law: Pat Manthey of Crystal; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Vera Jessen of Willmar, Lillian Kersbergen of Fort Collins, CO and Josephine Delmatio of Greenfield; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Ernest in December 2008; two granddaughters; and her son-in-law: Dennis Johnson.
