Norman Charles "Pete" Bierwerth, age 61 of Atwater, died unexpectedly on Thursday at his home.
Memorial services will be at 2pm Wednesday, April 3rd at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. A private interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be 5-7 pm on Tuesday, April 2nd at Peterson Bros. Atwater Funeral Home. (petersonbrothers.com)
Norman was born on Nov. 22nd, 1951 in St. Paul, MN to Helmuth and Helen (Johnson) Bierwerth. He attended Washington High School and graduated in 1970. On December 11th, 1971, he was united in marriage to Roxanne Smith. He followed his father by working for Great Northern Railway. He continued his railway apprenticeship while working for Burlington Northern Railroad becoming a machinist. In 1983, he started Midwest Locomotive Services, Inc. which led to the development of many different components that has changed the locomotive industry. He later partnered in purchasing the Minnesota Northern Railroad, St. Croix Valley Railroad and Dakota Northern Railroad while continuing to operate Midwest Locomotive Services. He enjoyed politics and Fox News as well as hunting and fishing. With all his many endeavors, work, and most importantly his family, he looked forward to seeing his three horses at the end of the day.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne; his children, Travis Bierwerth, Chad (Alicia) Bierwerth and Sara (Joshua) Meyer, all of Atwater, and Jason (Kelsey) Bierwerth of Grand Forks, ND; nine grandchildren, Jade, Taylor, Kyla, Jacob, Avary, Rowan, Dani, Owen and Nolan; his mother, Helen Bierwerth of St. Paul; six siblings, Christian (Sandy) Bierwerth, Mark (Del) Bierwerth, Kim (Dawn) Bierwerth, Hal (Sharon) Bierwerth, Andrew (Patty) Bierwerth and Teresa (Rick) Kloetzke, all of the Twin Cities; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Daniel Bierwerth; and relatives.
