Norman C. Haugaard, age 76, of Rosemount, MN. and Apache Junction, AZ., formerly of Willmar, died Thursday morning, January 25th, at the Banner Gardens Hospice House in Mesa, Arizona.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the First Covenant Church with Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, Jan. 29, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Norman was born on November 6, 1930, on the family farm near Parkers Prairie, MN., the son of Nels and Ruth (Terry) Haugaard. He grew up in the Parkers Prairie community and graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1948. He attended college at Moorhead State University, North Dakota State University, South Dakota State University and graduated with a Masters degree in Agriculture Education from the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. On June 15, 1954, in Aberdeen , SD., Norman was united in marriage to Carolyn Jean Snyder. He taught school for over 11 years in the Adams, Delavan and Canby High Schools and then taught for 10 years at the Canby Technical College. In 1975, they moved to Willmar and Norman worked as a Nutritionist at All State Hatcheries. In 1978, he purchased and operated a commodities brokerage business. Norman retired in 1985 due to health reasons. He then worked as a motivational speaker and instructor at the Willmar Technical College. In the summer of 2004, they moved to Rosemount where they spent their summers and wintered down in Apache Junction, AZ. He enjoyed sports, hunting and outdoor activities.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Rosemount; five children, Craig (and Lora) Haugaard of Aberdeen, SD., LaMar (and Joan) Haugaard of Vancouver, WA., Robin (and Wayne) Lamoreaux of Rosemount, Todd (and Shari) Haugaard of Kenyon and Donovan (and Kimberly ) Haugaard of Chaska; and eight grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Lloyd (and Judy) Haugaard of Tuscon, AZ.; one sister-in-law, Lucy Haugaard of Elk River and two brother-in-laws, LeRoy Zimmerman of Hewitt and Lloyd Edwards of Grand Forks, ND., besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eleanor Zimmerman and Leona Edwards; and one brother, Russell Haugaard.
